A unique R&D partnership
Total is a member of the KAUST Industry Collaboration Program (KICP), which is a unique R&D partnership between the industrial sector and the King Abdullah University for Science & Technology (KAUST). We support KAUST’s goal to become a world-class academic centre in advanced renewable energy, science and engineering. SunPower’s photovoltaic power plant solutions are being evaluated at KAUST’s New Energy Oasis (NEO) site, a special platform for introducing Saudi Arabia to the latest renewable energy technologies.
Solar award-winning efficiency
In 2010, SunPower installed a 2 megawatt (MW) photovoltaic (PV) system on the roof of one of the main academic campus buildings of the King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST). The solar array, with 9,300 SunPower high efficiency solar panels, is the largest photovoltaic installation in Saudi Arabia to date. This solar technology solution has generated 3,281 megawatt-hours (MWh) of power every year since 2010; exceeding annual predicted performance.
