In 2021, Saudi Arabia announced to reach net-zero emissions by 2060. As part of Vision 2030, the NREP (National Renewable Energy Program) is targeting 40GW of Solar and 16GW of Wind, which is deployed via the Saudi Power Procurement Company (SPPC) program through public government tenders (17 GW) and direct placement with the Public Investment Fund (PIF) (39 GW).
SPPC launched already 5 Rounds where TotalEnergies have been participating to support the Kingdom Energy Transition.
TotalEnergies is currently constructing Wadi Ad-Dawasir (119MWp) in KSA which was awarded under Round3. The consortium, consisting of TotalEnergies (France), Toyota Tsusho (Japan), and Altaaqa Renewable Energy (Saudi Arabia), has secured financing for a 119 MWp solar photovoltaic power plant in Wadi Ad-Dawasir. The consortium will oversee financing, ownership, and operation of the plant, which will be constructed by Chinese company SEPCO and reach COD by early 2025.
TotalEnergies is a 50% shareholder of SAFEER (Saudi French for Energy Efficiency and Renewables), a Joint Venture with Altaaqa Alternative Solution, an affiliate of the Zahid Group.
